Diamond Direct Buying Guide
For most customers, their first buying experience of diamonds is a very special and significant one. With such an important purchase it is worthwhile doing a little homework.
At DiamondsDirect.ie, we hand craft our diamonds to perfection.
We have broken the various characteristics of a diamond into the following 4/5 c’s and have also given you some tips to make sure you are well informed when it comes to your purchase:
A carat is the unit of weight by which a diamond is measured. One carat weighs 0.2 grams and is split up into 100 points, for example 80points is equal to 0.8 carats. Because large diamonds are found less commonly than small diamonds, the price of a diamond rises exponentially to its size.
Cut is often considered the most important characteristic. The cut refers to the angles and proportions of a diamond, and also its shape which for example could be round, square, pear of heart. The brilliance of a diamond depends heavily on its cut and brilliance is something that Diamonds Direct can certainly offer…
Ideally, colour should be totally absent as the clearer the diamond, colourless diamonds are the most desirable since they allow the most refraction of light. Off white diamonds absorb light, inhibiting brilliance.
This refers to the presence of inclusions in a diamond. Inclusions (also referred to as “nature’s fingerprints”) are natural identifying characteristics such as minerals or fractures, which occur while diamonds are formed in the earth. The fewer the inclusions, the more clear the diamond will be which creates more brilliance, and thus are more highly prized, and priced.
The diamond certificate, sometimes called a grading report, is a complete evaluation of your diamond that has been performed by a qualified professional with the help of special gemological instruments. Each stone bears its own recognizable, individual characteristics, which is listed on the certificate.
